The Dunbar Pavilion Plant Guide

This Plant Guide was created in partnership with Dr. Patrisia Gonzales, The Center for Regional Food Studies, and the Dunbar Team to provide a written inventory of the native plants growing on the Dunbar property and garden space, and each of their medicinal uses. This was created with an intention to increase knowledge and agency among People of Color, and to share ancestral modes of mental, physical, and spiritual healing to support nourishing and life-affirming practices. We hope you enjoy, and share with others!

Arizona Black Health Directory

The Arizona Black Health Directory was created in partnership with the Coalition for African American Health and Wellness (CAAHW), the Dunbar Pavilion, and the UA Center for Regional Food Studies and was funded by the University of Arizona Agnes Nelms Haury Program in Environment and Social Justice in 2019.

We believe that all People of Color should have the opportunity to locate a medical provider or practitioner who shares their same identities. When People of Color find Providers of Color, it creates an opportunity for shared history, an increased level of trust, an understanding of vulnerabilities, and a more empathetic experience. When People of Color have Providers of Color, they can better relate around genetics, cultural practices, and family traditions which leads to better health outcomes for all.

Our hope is that this free resource will help to reduce the disparities that have plagued our community in Arizona, and that it will continue to grow in the years to come.

This directory is designed to connect community members in Arizona to Black health and wellness medical and non-medical practitioners and resources. As of 2019, less than 5% of Arizona residents identified as Black. This means that in the state of Arizona, we as Black people not only struggle to find Black community and culture, but we also struggle to find medical providers and non-medical practitioners who share our same identity.
