The University of Arizona Museum of Arts and Archive of Visual Arts is happy to announce that we were able to work with artist Shontina Vernon to reschedule our planned screening to an online format of GRRRL Justice on Thursday, May 7th, 2020 at 4:00 pm.

We hope you can join us for a screening of her short film which will be followed by a Q/A with the writer/director.

This short narrative film, which screened at HBO’s O.G. Experience in NYC, explores the pathways of girls and queer youth of color into the juvenile justice system. It uses gender and sexuality as a framework for understanding their rising rates of incarceration.

Through the lead characters in this powerful triptych, we also come to understand the necessity of art and youth-led community spaces in their healing and liberation as well as the power of story.

This screening was scheduled in conjunction with the UAMA exhibition OtherTARGET/s, currently closed due to public health concerns with COVID-19.

The event is free.
